2K Australia and Gearbox Software Head to Pandora's Moon for New 'Borderlands'

Latest Borderlands installment pairs players with Handsome Jack to witness his turn.

2K and Gearbox today announced the development of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The new standalone game bridges the gap between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and will launch this fall on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.

Borderlands is one of 2K’s premiere franchises, and Borderlands 2 is the highest-selling title in the history of our company,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Fans are clamoring for an all-new, triple-A Borderlands experience, and we will deliver just that with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.”

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is currently in development by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. The shoot ‘n’ loot game takes place on Pandora’s moon, where players fight beside Handsome Jack. Fans will watch his evolution into the megalomaniacal tyrant of Borderlands 2 while contributing to the rise of Hyperion Corporation using four new playable characters. The low-gravity moon environment will allow players to battle new enemies in “gravity-bending” gunfights using new weaponry.

“Fans will see for themselves at PAX East that there’s nothing quite like moon jumping in a low-gravity gunfight, completely freezing a moon bandit with one of the new Cryo weapons, and then shattering him into little pieces that float off into space. It’s pretty epic,” said Tony Lawrence, general manager of 2K Australia.

Those attending PAX East in Boston this weekend can get a sneak peek of the game at booth #962. Visit the Borderlands site for more info.
