Deck Electrician

Working in tandem with the lighting console operator on a live show, the deck electrician lives backstage and ensures the smooth operation of all lighting and electrical elements. In addition to his or her show track, this technician is always standing by to jump in and tackle a potentially show-ending power failure.

Generator Operator

Most commonly referred to as the genny operator, this technician works under the direction of the gaffer (chief lighting technician) on films and television productions. His or her primary concern is the safe and proper operation of all electricity generators that supply power to on-set equipment and location trucks and trailers.

Gaffer

Lighting is one of the most important components to setting up the perfect shot. Proper lighting completes the scene by adding a dark and gloomy hue to an ominous rainy night, or sundrenched haze on a deserted island. Directors cannot rely on natural lighting to accomplish their vision; instead they create their own effects with the help of the gaffer.
