Entertainment Journalist

Entertainment journalists cover the news and events within the industries of film, television, music, live events, video games, and others. They dig up the stories of the latest Hollywood developments and follow the progress of next year’s major game releases, all for the anxious fans and enthusiasts who clamor for more. A great writer becomes an authority on the entertainment industry, a trusted source of information and insight.

Publicity Director

Publicity, in terms of the larger marketing strategy, encompasses all free advertising gained through the mention of the product or brand through written reviews, news stories, or other radio, television, web, or print media. The director of publicity is responsible for the development of the overall publicity strategy concerning the client and is accountable for managing a staff of publicists assigned to manage the accounts of individual clients.

Press Agent

Press agent is the formal title given to members of the Association of Theatrical Press Agents & Managers, though members and non-members alike wear the synonymous moniker of press representative. These individuals work on theatrical productions as part of the larger marketing initiative that includes paid advertising, promotions, and press relations.

EPK Producer

Electronic press kits, or EPKs, are commissioned by film and television production companies for use in publicity material sent to members of the media, as DVD extras, and in promotional packages. The footage included in the EPK usually consists of behind-the-scenes shots and “making of” videos, as well as interviews with the cast and crew.

Unit Videographer

The unit videographer (also known as EPK cameraperson, or video camera operator) is hired to record behind-the-scenes and “making of” footage for films and television shows for use in electronic press kits and/or DVD extras. While the first unit production crew is filming the movie or show, the unit videographer and a small team are following their every move, and capturing interviews.

Unit Stills Photographer

The unit stills photographer works on a freelance basis and is hired by the producer, studio publicity department, PR firm, or film sales agent. This person is responsible for photographing scenes during production on a film or television show that will be used in publicity materials, the movie poster, or DVD packaging.

Director of Publicity

The director of publicity for a record label oversees the functions of the publicity and press relations staff in support of artists signed to the label. He or she is tasked with developing a publicity campaign for the artist through collaboration with the department staff and artist’s management, and assigns a publicist to specific bands to implement and monitor the campaign.
