Red Frog Events, founded by Joe Reynolds and Ryan Kunkel, is a live event production company based in Chicago, Ill. In 2012, the company hosted its inaugural Firefly Music Festival, the first major event of its kind for Red Frog.
Supervising the staff of promotions assistants, the manager is responsible for approaching advertising clients and community partners concerning opportunities for promotional activities. He or she negotiates plans by which the station may participate in and benefit from, including events such as fairs, concerts, parades, and other local festivities.
Paul Diaz, the owner and president of Tree Sound Studios, founded the company with one explicit mission: “Educate the world on the importance of sustainable living and the impact of conscious consumerism through the power of music.” To that end, Diaz and his wife Sunshine have partnered to build the world’s most earth-friendly recording studio and several sister organizations.
The primary purpose of the promotion department is to obtain airplay for the record label’s albums and singles on as many stations in as many markets as possible. The promotion manager answers to the vice president or director of promotion, and oversees the larger promotion staff. This staff may be broken into segments based on music genre or geographical area, with a manager for each segment
Most radio stations only put a handful of new releases on the air each week, so slots in the rotation are limited; this translates to intense competition between promotion departments at different labels for their slice of the pie. It takes a certain vigor and unwillingness to accept defeat to survive in the music business as a promotion associate.
