Costume Buyer

The costume buyer makes a living shopping for clothes for film and television stars, but there is more to it than racking up an impressive bill on the department’s credit card. This person is the conduit through which the designer sources his or her materials, scours L.A. for the perfect bomber jacket, and pulls together the look that defines a character.

Lead Painter

Hired during pre-production by the paint coordinator or paint foreman on a film or television set, the lead painter is a senior member of the crew who shall take on the greatest responsibility for mentoring the staff at large and for setting the example for artistic quality.

Construction Foreman

Scenery is one of the most comprehensive visual elements of a film or television production. Sets establish a time and place but can also become characters in themselves, with great craftsmanship and effort put forth to providing an immersive environment in which the cast plays out the story. Just consider for a moment the iconic places audiences have traveled through scenery, like the bridge of the Starship Enterprise or the untamed and ominous ruins of Kurtz’s Cambodian compound.

Set Designer

Audiences don’t usually spend much time wondering if a particular scene of a film or television show was shot on location or created on a sound stage, and that’s the way it should be. Set designers that create elaborate and visually stunning scenery leave an impression on admiring viewers, but the subtle sets that seamlessly create a believable environment inside of a sound stage are noteworthy for holding the suspension of disbelief.

Construction Buyer

Hired during pre-production of a film, television show, or live production, the construction buyer works under the direction of the construction coordinator and construction foreman to source all materials necessary to complete the build of set pieces and scenery.

Set Decoration Crew

The set decoration crew, known colloquially as the set dec crew, are the junior members of the set decorating department and begin work during pre-production of a film or television show. The number of technicians required on the crew will be determined by the scale of the production and number of different sets to be dressed.
