What to Expect

Cirque du Soleil has some the highest standards for skills and experience in the industry. What might be supervisor-level experience at one company could be entry-level at Cirque. If your résumé catches the eye of the recruiter, you will be called for an initial phone interview in which you’ll be asked further questions about your experience, employment history, and personality. After a green light from the recruiter, you will do another phone interview with the hiring manager of your particular department or show. By this stage you need to be prepared. Crew candidates can expect to be quizzed on their technical knowledge and troubleshooting expertise on specific equipment. If your résumé says you are proficient in the repair and maintenance of Vari-Lite VL2000, be ready to prove it.

Remember that Cirque du Soleil is an international company with French-Canadian roots. Speaking at least English or French is preferred; both is better. Additionally, if you are applying for a position outside North America, it’s a plus to know several languages. You’ll have a better shot of landing a stage manager job at Zaia in Macau if you speak Cantonese.

At the international headquarters in Montreal employees are treated to a gourmet cafeteria serving three meals per day, an outdoor lounge area under the pine trees, a gym with fitness classes, and regular social activities. Even on tour you will feel more like Madonna than Madonna’s roadie. The touring shows come equipped with a full gourmet kitchen, tablecloth dining rooms, and world-class chefs to keep the artists, staff, and crew properly fed. On-staff nutritionists and athletic trainers are at the disposal of any employee who needs their services.
