What to Expect

Frameworks Storyboards represents a staff of freelance artists and contracts with clients for the services of those artists to produce storyboards, concept art, and production illustrations. In addition to film and television production, clients also include corporate events, commercial properties, and conventions. As the artists are not full-time employees, they are free to seek professional representation outside Frameworks and take on additional clients. This is highly beneficial to the artist, as it allows them to maximize their earning potential. Pay will vary depending on the volume and duration of work; artists are billed out at between $600 and $700 per day. From that fee, Frameworks takes a commission.

The agency employs between 10 and 20 artists at any given time, but is always interested in new talent. The company has a need for both black-and-white and full-color artists, as well as those who specialize in set illustration and production illustration. Candidates should carefully peruse the Frameworks website to determine the style and quality of work the agency represents, then send an electronic résumé with a portfolio of images in JPEG format. Artists must work in the Los Angeles area and should demonstrate experience in storyboarding, concept art, or a similar area for feature or commercial production. Entry-level positions do occasionally become available, and will be billed out at a lower rate. A college degree is not an explicit requirement, as the artist is judged primarily on professional experience and talent, but formal training in drawing and painting is necessary.
