What to Expect

Patchwerk Recording Studios was founded by former Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Bob Whitfield, with the help of college friend BJ Kerr. The full-length album, Soul On Ice, soon followed the studio’s first release, rapper Ras Kass’ single, “Remain Anonymous.” In the last decade, the Atlanta-based studio has collaborated with such high-profile artists as Snoop Dogg, Toni Braxton, Sting, Beyoncé, Annie Lennox, and Akon. However, the studio’s true mission has always been to set itself apart as the foremost studio in the South while nurturing emerging artists, writers, and producers.

Housed in a 10,000-square-foot facility, Patchwerk’s facilities include two isolated recording studios. The main room is home to the only SSL J 9000 console in Georgia and features three isolated recording booths and a dedicated drum room. The second recording studio is built around the SSL Duality console and a Pro Tools HD 6 Accel system. Additionally, Patchwerk has dedicated facilities for mixing and mastering, allowing clients to complete the entire album process at one shop.

The engineering staff is led by chief engineer and current owner of Patchwerk, Mike Wilson. To his credit, Wilson has earned more than a dozen Grammy nominations, including wins for Beyoncé’s Dangerously in Love and BeBe & CeCe Winans’ Still. In all, the studio employs less than 20 individuals, including administrative staff, engineers, and assistants. When the need arises, Patchwerk does offer internships in engineering and marketing. Applicants can find information on the company’s official website and submit a résumé via email.
