What to Expect

The production facilities of Silvercup Studios consist of the main lot and the east lot, both in the Long Island City area of Queens. The main lot, located on 22nd Street, houses 13 studios ranging in size from 2,100 square feet to 18,000 square feet. Additional facilities on the main lot include dressing rooms, rooftop shooting space, print photography studios, and stages specifically designed for music video production. On Starr Avenue, the east lot is a Hollywood-style production compound sitting on 200,000 square feet, gated with drive-on access for up to 100 vehicles. There are six individual studios measuring between 16,000 and 9,400 square feet. The east lot houses a 12,000-square-foot scenic and prop shop, dressing rooms, production offices, and storage. Silvertrucks Lighting is a location lighting and grip equipment service located on the east lot, able to provide anything from flicker-free HMIs to C-stands and Supertroopers.

Permanent employment opportunities exist for full-time and part-time work, and include roles in operations and facilities management, administration, client relations, business development, and production. However, if you are interested in working on a film or television show that shoots at Silvercup, you should be seeking employment from the production company, not the location. Crew members like gaffers, grips, script supervisors, and other production staff are not hired by Silvercup. That being said, studio employees do have the chance to meet and work closely with the production personnel who occupy the facility, which can provide excellent networking opportunities. Similarly, facility technical staff may have an opportunity to work on the set of a resident film or television show, depending on the production and its needs. Internships are occasionally available, but not advertised. In seeking employment, it is best to directly contact Silvercup Studios by phone or mail. A human resources representative can tell you if any positions are available and how to apply.

As one of the largest production facilities in New York City, Silvercup has been home to numerous episodic television shows, including 30 Rock, White Collar, Fringe, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Gossip Girl. Likewise, feature films shot on the lots include Do the Right Thing, Julie & Julia, The Devil Wears Prada, Gangs of New York, When Harry Met Sally, and Godfather III. Music videos for recording artists Beyoncé, Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, Justin Timberlake, and others have been produced at Silvercup Studios.
