What to Expect

Zynga specializes in social gaming products that operate on platforms like Facebook and Myspace and apps for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. The company’s headquarters is located in San Francisco, along with 11 additional domestic studios in California, Texas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington, and New York. As such a large organization, there are numerous employment opportunities within multiple divisions of the company. Administrative and business operations include human resources, community management, marketing, and product management. Development departments consist of art/design/user interface, software engineering, production, and quality assurance.

For entry-level candidates and students, Zynga offers two options for getting a foot in the door with hands-on experience. Under the Zynga University Relations department, the new grad program makes available full-time, paid positions in product management and software engineering for recent or upcoming graduates of bachelors, masters, or doctorate degrees. This is beneficial to those entering the workforce because applicants are not competing for jobs with seasoned veterans, only similar grads that have yet to gain professional experience. Internship and co-op opportunities are paid positions for a 12-week period, open to students currently enrolled in a bachelors program or post-graduate work within two years of completion. All internships take place at the headquarters in San Francisco, and relocation assistance is provided for those outside the northern California area.

Employees at Zynga enjoy many perks and benefits, not the least of which is a liberal vacation policy. The company does not believe in the concept of limited paid vacation. Instead, employees are encouraged to “please, rest and take some days off.” On the job, the company provides a culinary staff to prepare free lunch and dinner to the entire workforce. Got the late-afternoon munchies? Free drinks and snacks are always available in the kitchen. Happy Hour Fridays are a time for the entire office to mingle and unwind with more free food and beverages. Social activities and stress relief is a key tenement of the Zynga work ethic. On the first Wednesday of every month at the San Fran studio, management hosts a poker tournament. Suffer a bad beat on a queen-high? Enjoy an onsite massage, reflexology, or acupuncture session. Certain studios even offer onsite haircuts. Of course, no game studio is complete without a game lounge. Zynga studios stock Nintendo systems, arcade cabinets, Xbox 360 consoles, and PS3 game systems.
